Computers & the Past?
As a history major, history is a great interest of mine. This summer I created a short introductory workshop on how to how to use computers for genealogy research and family trees. Computers are a great way to collect information and some new programs allow us to easily track and record information. The two programs that I have focused on are Legacy Family Tree (for PC) and MacFamily Tree (for Apple). While my first workshop didn't have a great turnout, my one attendee got a great one on one tutorial in which I set the program up for her and got her started. She was back again the next day with a ton more information entered and a list of questions about the way the program works. It was great and she plans to be back to show us how she gets along. She was excited about it and was already passing the word along to friends! :) Just another way we can get the community re-interested in C@P.

July 30,'12 was a day that made volunteering at St. Ann's CAP really worthwhile. A walk-in client came in thanking me so much for being 'here'! She was formerly from Cape Breton, had been back on business, and she and her husband had decided to do the Trail for old times' sake. But they still needed to book their return flight. All the way west from Sydney to Exit 12, no signs of actual CAP service were visible to them, until they came up Exit 11 to the College on their way along the Trail and saw the big old CAP sign that's been there for 15 years. So she made the booking, asked for maps of the Highlands - I had two excellent maps for her which I had "picked up" at an AGB Museum visit - and asked what the fee was. I asked for the regular $1 for up to 30 minutes, but she handed me $10 from her wallet, saying all this had made her day and was worth every penny to her! (So that made a grand total of $25 income for St. Ann's this July! Nothing like we used to make, but still proof we come in handy!)
